OPEN: year-round
FEES: $18 per campsite per night for up to 6 persons; $3 per night for each additional person
AMENITIES: picnic tables, bathrooms, outdoors showers (not private), potable water
This park epitomizes the beauty of the Hawaiian Islands. Pikake trees are everywhere lending the air of the park a sweet, gentle perfume. The camping is where ever you want to pitch your tent in a big field. There are open spaces and spaces under spreading trees. It's a short walk to the parking lot, and cars are not allowed onto the field. All of this is on a ridge above the ocean. Wai'anapanapa State Park hosts a black sand beach, blow hole, cave pools, and the Hana-Wai'anapanapa Coastal Trail which runs from the park to the Hana Airport. This park is a great place to post up while you explore the Hana area. You get the added bonus of the privacy of the morning hours since many tourists do the famous Drive to Hana as a day trip and therefore populate the area during midday. This park requires that you make reservations ahead of time. There are also cabins at this park. You must purchase as well as print your permit before you get to the park. Permits are not available for purchase at the park.
