EAGLE CREEK

OPEN: year round
FEE: Northwest Forest Pass or $5 per day
AMENITIES: restrooms at trailhead, creek, swimming
One of the most beautiful hikes in Oregon! The path runs along the creek, starting low and winding its way up until the creek is at the bottom of a ravine. There are bright wildflowers and insects everywhere. You pass a few waterfalls and swimming holes (when its warm enough). Even in the winter there is luscious spongy green moss that foments the vibrancy of the area.
The beauty of the trail and low elevation gain make this a very popular hike, so we recommend going mid-week.
The first "official" camp areas you come to are about 4 miles in, on the right side of the trail, just past the high bridge. They are in a densely wooded area; very little light filters through. There are several other spots in more open areas throughout the next mile, so keep going to find something a little more inviting or for a larger group! A couple spots are right on the creek and have makeshift fire rings that have been used time after time.

Directions: From Portland, take Interstate 84 to Eagle Creek exit 41, turn right and keep right along the creek for a mile to the road's end. Because the Eagle Creek exit is only accessible from the west, travelers from Hood River have to take Bonneville Dam exit 40 and double back on the freeway for a mile
